Understanding township government

What does the Township Board do?

Center Township’s three-member board is its legislative body. It makes budget and policy decisions that help guide township services and provide accountability for public funds.

Review and adopt the budget

The trustee prepares the township’s proposed annual budget. The board considers and adopts it, setting the spending plan for township responsibilities.

Review financial reporting

The board considers the trustee’s annual report and approves it in whole or in part. This review helps provide public accountability for township finances.

Approve assistance standards

In Center Township, the board reviews and approves the eligibility standards proposed by the trustee for assistance to qualifying residents.

The board and trustee have different roles. The board acts collectively on legislative and financial matters. The trustee manages daily operations and handles individual applications for township assistance.

Need township assistance?

The trustee’s office provides information about eligibility and applications for help with needs such as housing and utilities. Contact the official office directly at (812) 435-5502.
